A Few Recommendations

When I received this book as a wedding present, I thought it ws a crazy wedding gift; actually, it has been one of the best wedding gifts we received. It contains solid, scientific, behavioral advice and principles you can apply in any situation. Understanding the principles is very easy, but practicing and applying them, for me at least, is quite a struggle. I am constantly pulling this book off the shelf. And, if you want a sneak peak, you can access the book in its entirety online here. I highly recommend reading chapters two and three as a starting point.

Some of my favorite toys come from a little company called Melissa & Doug. This is the pattern blocks and boards I've been eyeing for Katelin. If I could justify it, I would spoil my children rotten with Melissa & Doug's classic high quality toys.

Lately, I've become quite a fan of Shannon Hale's young adult novels (thanks to recommendations from Lonna and Jenette). I love when a book offers an imperfect, yet worthwhile heroine. In my former life, I would have definitely recommended these books to my eighth-graders. Today, I'll recommend it to my blogger-friends. They are quick fun books to read.

Bedtime Story Birthday

I love birthdays!

I love the anticipation.

I love the cupcakes.

I love balloons and birthday signs and most of all pretty packages in bright colors.

I love tables set with matching paper plates and napkins.

But more than any of that - I love this four-year-old! She is as cute now as she was then.

Don't You Just Love it...

when you discover that your 15-month old son knows how to remove his diaper??? Oh, and do his business on your carpet?

After scrubbing and re-scrubbing the carpet for 45 minutes, I realized, (in case I ever had any doubt) that I could never house-train a dog.

Airport Reunion

Katelin greets Trevor at the airport.

This is what happens AFTER Mom and the kids return from their visits with Grandmas and Grandpas and Dad returns from his two-week tour of China. It was a sweet day at Austin-Bergstrom.

How to Get Married

Katelin talking to Seth: And Seth, you HAVE to get a ring, okay?

Me to Katelin: What are you doing?

Katelin: Teaching Seth how to get married.

Katelin continues talking to Seth: Then you get the ring and say, "Will you marry me?" And she puts the ring on her finger, on any finger she wants...

Seth: blank stare

Katelin: Then she wears a white dress... or a purple dress... or whatever color. And you wear something very handsome. Like black. Kind of like this shirt (note: the shirt is actually navy), but without the basketball on it. But you have to look soooo handsome. Okay?

P.S. I'm back in the office and ready to blog again... Happy Wednesday.
